Ultratropical Palm, not for the faint at heart. We also have larger multistemmed Lipsticks starting to show color available in the palm section.

  • Origin: Southeast Asia, Borneo

  • Type: Clumping tropical palm

  • Key feature: Brilliant red crown shafts and leaf bases

Appearance

  • Height in Australia: 4–6 m

  • Growth habit: Multi‑stemmed clumping palm

  • Colour: Intense red crown shaft; bright green leaflets

  • Growth rate: Slow to moderate

  • Best colour: Achieved in bright, filtered light

Climate & Hardiness

  • Preferred climate: Tropical to very warm subtropical

  • Cold tolerance: None,  damaged below ~10°C prefers at least 20 

  • Humidity: High humidity essential

  • Australian suitability:

    • Thrives in Far North Queensland

    • Performs well in Mackay, Townsville, Cairns

Soil & Water

  • Soil: Rich, moist, well‑drained, slightly acidic

  • Watering: Requires consistently moist soil; does not tolerate drying out

  • Mulching: Helps maintain moisture and humidity

  • Ideal locations: Near water features, rainforest‑style gardens, sheltered courtyards

Light Requirements

  • Best: Bright, filtered light

  • Avoid: Harsh, full sun in dry climates; cold winter winds
