Some heliconias are great landscapers, some are great cut flower varieties Hot Rio Nites is both. It was originally found in the garden of famous landscape architect Roberto Marx Burle.
The plant habit is slender and upright, making it perfect around paths or mass planted. The powdery stems and cherry red flowers exude elegance and evoke tropical ambiance.
I can't say enough nice things about Hot Rio, everyone should be growing it.
It's also cold hardy and easy to grow and flowers dependably throughout the year. Recommended for novice growers, landscapers and landscape architects.

Hot Rio Nights Heliconia1 February 2018Loves the sun and water. Very vigorous grower in the tropics. Very easy to split and multiply your plants. Tall stems up to 4+m with huge red flower sprays. Great plant for greenery and flowers - bright red.
Hot Rio Nites - Great in Brisbane10 October 2017I ordered 2 of these first up, and that was probably my only mistake. They grew so well, that within 1 year I had split the clumps up and spread out to nearly a dozen other spots. The plants have grown very well down here in Brisbane, with the only issue I have being the strong westerly winds tearing the long leaves of the plants that are not sheltered. A quick prune and the massive clump looks great again, with the added benefit of the flowers being much more visible. Overall, a great landscaping plant for Brisbane, and great cut flowers.
Happy PlantsBy: Narelle Cockram on 17 February 2017Plant arrived in great condition and new shoot growing rapidly. Very happy with this purchase and look forward to seeing it flower.
Good Experience Dealing With El Arish Tropical ExoBy: Alan M Smith on 23 September 2016I purchased 3x Heliconia plants from El Arish - Hot Rio Nights, Tropifleur and Golden Torch Adrian. The plants were supplier well cut back, without pots, wrapped in damp paper. All specimens were well advanced and all arrived in excellent condition. They were such strong specimens that I did not re - pot them but immediately planted them into a permanent garden bed. All appear to be surviving extremely well. The mailing system worked extremely well with these purchases and the tracking system allowed me to collect the plants within an hour of their arrival at my local Post Office. Overall a very good experience doing business with El Arish.
