Phyllodium pulchellum is a highly unusual shrub with unique pendulous inflorescences. It grows around 1.5 to 1.8 metres tall and maintains strange unusual flowering structures for many weeks over the winter and spring. It is definitley a worthy ornamental shrub for tropical gardens but is also used mediciallly throughout Asia. It's other common names are payang-payang, gaan-gaan, kalaykay and kupit. Studies suggest anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, anti-diarrheal properties.
