Pacific Plantain is a widely cultivated cooking banana throughout the South Pacific and Australia. There is no formal difference between cooking and dessert bananas. Cooking bananas have higher levels of starch and are not as sweet. They can be used green like a starchy veggie and can be fried or roasted. When they are ripe they are often fried as well and served with pork.
Plantains produce year round and in the tropical regions of the world, ranking as the tenth most important staple food in the world. Highly reccomended for tropical permaculture gardens as a potato substitute.
