Carambola are small oval-shaped fruit with five distinct ribs. These ribs result in five-sided star shapes when the fruit is sliced horizontally hence the carambola’s alternative name, starfruit. Glossy pale green in colour, the carambola has edible thin skin, with crisp, juicy and refreshing flesh. The flavour varies from sweet to slightly sour. This is a very popular fruit tree in subtropical gardens, children love the fruit and they make great garnishes.
