Areaca-boi is rare in cultivation but recently has been receiving a lot of attention as a potentially exciting commercial tropical fruit tree in Australia. The fruits start out greenish and ripen to a bright yellow color. The fruits are very juicy and have a tart refreshing taste that lends itself well to jams, juices, icecream, etc. While the fruit does not travel particularly well it does fruit several time a year making it highly prolific. Fruits are also very high in vitamin C ( 2x that of oranges).
The tree itself is generally mall to medium with attractive drooping branches that have an ornamental quality. We reccomend Araza to tropical fruit growers in warmer climates as it is frost sensitive
